Last weekend Ryan took some time out from his busy Olympic schedule to join 15 of Ireland’s top sailors and their crews for the ISA Helmsmans Championships hosted by Lough Derg Yacht Club.

Ryan joined by Carrickfergus Sailing Club crew members Chris Penney and Mark Seaton finished a respectable third overall, Ryan progressed through to the finals on Saturday after three qualifying races, conditions were difficult with strong winds on the Sunday with five races. Well done to George Kenefick and his team who won the event also Mark Mansfield and team who finished in second place on equal points with George.

Ryan & Matt leave tomorrow for Austraila to train with Aussies Nathan Outterage and Iain Jenson.

We have arrived in Weymouth to do 4 days training. Yesterday we had a meeting with our Olympic Manager and the team and we discussed plans and goals for the up coming events. We also collected the new boat so we are excited to get sailing today! We managed to stretch out budget and buy a bottle of lambrine to crack over the boat!! ha We have our training camp here in weymouth then we go home for 2 weeks and then back to Weymouth for the Pre-Olympics starting on the 5th August. Recently Matt and myself have been selected to compete in the Pre-Olympics. The event will be in Weymouth from the 8-13th August, 2011. With their being 24 of the Top Nations from around the world it will be a great event to take part in and it will be a good build up to our preparations for the Olympics in 2012. In the mean time we have to put together a new boat and get some time on the water now after taking a break after sail for gold regatta. Hard work begins again!
